  1. What should I prepare for my audition?

  2. When you register to audition, you will receive an email confirmation. In this email will be a link to your audition packet that will explain what you need to prepare.

  3. What do I need to submit prior to my audition?

  4. We will need to have two things from you before you audition, the registration fee and the Member Application. The fee can be paid online and the Member Application can be uploaded or emailed to us.

  5. How much does it cost to audition?

  6. The audition registration is $80.

  7. What is included in my tuition?

  8. Your tuition will cover your housing for winter camps, spring training and the entire summer tour. Additionally, tuition covers food during spring training, summer tour and some select winter camps. Tuition also covers the education you will receive from our world-class staff. You will gain knowledge of your specific instrument or equipment, a performance mentality and invaluable life skills. The experience of marching with the Madison Scouts will positively affect the rest of your life; it is truly priceless.

How do I get from the airport/bus station to the audition location?

  9. The corps will run a regular shuttle between the Indianapolis airport and the Bloomington rehearsal facility. Time to be announced.

  10. What factors determine whether or not I make the Madison Scouts?

  11. The most important aspect of being a Madison Scout is a great attitude. Members must be positive, respectful, and always put the group first.

  12. No corps members start the season with all the knowledge and ability to be successful. It is a willingness and capacity to improve that distinguishes the good from the great. Prospective members must demonstrate noted talent applicable to the section for which they audition.

During your audition you will be asked to list any conflicts you have with winter camps and the summer season. Your availability will not only determine whether or not you are selected as a member, but will be part of your contract to which you will be expected to adhere.

  13. Are there ways to reduce my tuition?

  14. Yes, we recognize how hard it is to raise the entirety of your tuition on your own and go to great lengths to help. We typically have two fundraisers as well as resources to acquire sponsorships from businesses in your area. Contracted members gain access to multiple scholarship opportunities that become available throughout the winter season.

  15. How many spots are open in the 2010 corps?

  16. All 150 spots are open, including the drum major and assistant conductor.  Veteran members are required to audition but will be given the appropriate consideration for their experience with the Scouts.

  17. Can I audition for drum major?

  18. The role of drum major extends far beyond conducting the corps on the field. A successful drum major is a role model and a leader for every member of the corps. Auditions for drum major are considered on a per case basis, contact Dann Petersen if you are interested.

  19. How can I begin to prepare for a 2011 audition?

  20. The best preparation is actually going through the process this year. Even if you don't think you have a chance, we recommend you give it your best effort. You will no doubt learn a great deal about yourself and the process. If you just want to look over the audition music, you may purchase it on the instrument of your choice through the online store for $10.

  21. If I have auditioned for the Scouts in the past, do I need to complete the application again?

  22. Yes, you must complete a new member application. We want to ensure all your information is current.

  23. If I owe money to another corps, can I still join the Scouts?

  24. No, in cooperation with other corps, you will not be eligible to join the Scouts until your outstanding obligations have been fulfilled.
